affordable spring wardrobe basics for baby girl

I know March just started but I have spring on my mind! I blame the beautiful, very California weather we’ve been having lately. Here in Sacramento, the almond orchards are in full bloom and to me, that marks the end of winter (or at least the beginning of the end).

Not only that, but my baby girl has outgrown all of her newborn and 0-3 month clothing. How five, almost six months have passed is beyond me, but I placed a couple of orders for her spring wardrobe and I loved them so much I have to share them with you.

I tend to shop at H&M, Old Navy, and Target for my babies when I can find clothes in the colors I like (anyone else a little picky with the shades of colors?) I also gravitate towards earth tones, which a lot of smaller brands carry, so when I can I like to order from more sustainable places like Colored Organics and Mebie Baby. I like to browse Goodwill and other thrift stores as well, but I just haven’t felt comfortable spending time browsing through stores these days — and honestly, wrangling two kids while trying to find thrifted treasures does not sound like a good time to me. Online browsing is what works for our season of life right now, so that’s what I’ve done.

I apply the same level of thoughtfulness to buying for my baby girl as I do for my own closet. I like to shop with a loose color palette to help keep my shopping in check. I think we all know how easy it can be to buy clothes just because they’re pretty and it’s so easy to do that with baby clothes!

I found this image on Pinterest and was immediately drawn to the fresh green in the color scheme. It looked like spring to me, so I ran with it. I went for a pop of sunny yellow, some happy pinks, and balanced out the color with some grounding brown and cream neutral pieces. Even her Easter outfit falls into this color scheme!

The foundational pieces of Luna’s wardrobe are her bodysuits. I really love the H&M bodysuits. They’re thick and super soft and come in packs of five in all kinds of colors. I like to scoop up the beige set in either the wrap or regular style, but I also went for the green set this time which included a beautiful muted purple, a soft pink, and a seafoam green color. Because it wouldn’t be spring without some florals, she’ll also have some bodysuits in a ditsy floral pattern. And since spring weather is so transitional, I’m also ordering a few short sleeved pieces from Colored Organics so she’s prepared for those beautiful warm spring days.

Comfy leggings are my go to bottoms with Luna. My holy grail baby pants are the fold over H&M ones in — you guessed it — the beige set. I especially love these because the waistband is soft. I’m not afraid of color, though! I also ordered a set of colorful leggings and I’ve been loving mixing and matching these basics everyday!

I also picked up some a couple of cardigans for layering during transitional weather. Spring days can be warm here but the mornings are always chilly.

Last but not least, I’ve got a couple of one pieces for the “dressier” days. The green one is from Old Navy and the pink is from Mebie Baby.

Here’s to dreaming of warmer weather and longer days!
